Helping my Daughter with a School Report
Even though many of us dreamed that we would never have to do any school work again after we completed high school, most of us end up revisiting it at some point. Even if you try as hard as possible to stay away from homework, if you choose to have children, you don’t have a choice – usually you end up helping them at some point. That is exactly the situation I found myself in today – helping my daughter with her school work.
When she brought her report to me and asked me for help, I was thinking to myself that I hoped this day would never come. I’ll admit I was no big fan of school, and hoped that I would never see it again, but when it comes to helping your child out, those sorts of attitudes just don’t work. So, I decided to sit down with her, read the description of her assignment and give her whatever help she needed.
After reading what she needed to do for her report, I felt relieved – she needed my help, and not the help of some super smart person. I mean, how much work can it be to write a paper about female dog names, right?
Well, after a couple hours of working with her, I realized that I might not need to be a rocket scientist, but there was still work to do. It was apparent that the books that we had at home were not sufficient for the task at hand, so we are going to the library tonight to find more books that will help our cause. At least she is proactive about her school work and we are not in a rush. Needless to say, as much as I hated school, working with her on her assignment has been fun – I can see us doing this again in the future.
